A Girl Vs. Mutant Zombie Robots

The sketch for this painting has been sitting around on my desk since June and I made a point to finish it this past week. I put a girl in there because I don't really draw girls that much. I only look at them.

There's not really much of a story behind the painting, but lets just pretend the robots eat people and the more humans they eat, the more human parts they grow on them, thus making them stronger, so they continue to keep eating people. This girl is just some badass who knows how to destroy them.

"Genius IQ Challenge" Game Titles

This summer, I have been interning at an Iphone App company called Ingenious Technology. I have been doing a lot of busy work for them for the past month, but last week I had the opportunity to create two game titles for a game they had already put out, but changed the name of. Hopefully these titles will be on the actual apps soon. Also next week I will start creating my own Iphone app, which I am very excited for. I don't even own an Iphone, but still, it's a fun learning experience.

R.I.P. Big Man

I grew up listening to Bruce Springsteen s and the E Street Band since I could first hear noises and continue to do so today. When I heard about Clarence Clemon's death I legit almost cried. His music has been with me for so long it was like having a relative pass away. That week I played nothing but Bruce on my ipod and would just get so somber when I heard the Big Man's epic sax riffs. I was able to see him perform on stage about a year and a half ago and I am so glad I had that chance. Most defiantly a legend amongst men. R.I.P.

With my cheesy comments being said, time to talk about the painting (normally I hate ranting but here I go). The day I heard Clarence Clemons passed away, I stopped all the projects I was currently working on and began this one. It began with a really fun sketch and I tried to make this sort of a spontaneous project that I would finish in a few days so it could be up to date with the news. As I began painting, I realized there was so much about digital painting I needed to explore. Each time I began to paint, I discovered something new about the program, began nit picking at it, or just completely restart areas I didn't like. I then realized how easy it is to overwork a digital painting. I can't say I am completely happy with this painting nor can I say I am upset with how it turned out, but I think after a month it was time to move on. I don't think I fully captured Bruce's likeness (shame on me) and like I said before, it just feels extremely over worked. However, I view this painting as sort of a lesson, being it's really only the second painting I had ever done in photoshop. I'm hoping I when I begin painting the projects I started before this one (still in the sketch stage) I will have a clearer view of how they are to be executed. Also, I added the text in there last minute. It's supposed to allude to the album cover for "Born to Run."

Sorry about the ranting.

Something New

My dad directs a school for kids with learning disabilities and I work there as a teacher's aid in the art room while I'm off from college. This week, the kids were doing linoleum block prints and I decided to do some of my own. I've never done it before and I found it to be tons of fun. I did one design from my head and a self portrait.

Digital Darth

I had spent a good portion of last semester painting in acrylics, which I had learned to enjoy very much, so I decided to give digital painting a try. I had a lot of fun with this one and it's defiantly something I plan on experimenting with more over the summer in addition to painting traditionally.

Also, to get reference for this illustration, I had my brother dress up in my Darth Vader costume while I took pictures. He was very salty about it.

Less Than Jake Poster

My Illustration Methods Class did a Target Market project in which we choose a certain industry and base our final project off that. I chose the music industry and created this Less Than Jake poster. Ska is not dead.

Greek Gods as Robots Being Badasses

Final Project For Figure Utilization. Here we have Poseidon punishing a shark on a surfboard, Apollo rocking out on the guitar in front of the sun as the Apollo 13 flies behind him, and Ares flying a missile into war as he aims his next shot.

One Day Projects

Each of these took a class period to complete. The first one is based off the phrase "SASQUATCH VS. OCTOPUS. GO!" and the second one is based off a craigs list missed connections post about some girl who would like a chance to meet another girl she saw at a pizza place. However, I went back to fix some things in the first one so technically it took a little longer than a class period.

The Troubled Genius

In my Illustration Methods class, we were each given a quote and we had to illustrate it. I got "He was like a troubled genius without the genius." Here we have some guy who can make this elaborate Rube Goldberg contraption but cant even pour his own damn milk.

Larry David

For Figure Utilization class we had to illustrate a portrait of a celebrity with two conflicting personalities. Because Larry David is nothing but salty, I painted him as salty, and saltier.

Patternz

Some patternz. If I find time I would like to make a finished piece of the spot of the shark fighting the octopus.

EXUBERANT

For my Figurative Utilization class's first project, our teacher handed us random adjectives and we had to illustrate them. I got exuberant. My original idea was to just have some kid getting stoked off his mind with some burgers, then my friend Gia told me to add a dinosaur, and I'm very glad I did. Thanks Gia!

But yeah there's a bunch of things I could fix in this painting but I know I probably won't get around to doing that. Whatevskis.

The United States Capiturtle

First project for Illustration Methods class this semester. Had to illustrate an article dealing with the topic of filibusters. If you don't know what that is google it or something.

drawing at work

I was looking through some dumb fashion magazine for things to draw at work. After finding stupid picture of a woman hugging her man, low and behold I come across an ad with Sir Sean Connery in it looking casual hell. Dude kills it.
