Portrait of Chris Rao

Messing around with my new Wacom Tablet and Corel Painter. As you can see, I'm a Corel Painter n00b. Still got so much to learn and explore.

Anyway, Chris Rao ladies and gentlemen. If you've been to el colorado snow and skate, chances are you were just another customer pissing him off and making him pretend he cares about you.

lol jk rao loves all his customers, make sure you specifically ask for him if you're ever in the shop, he will greatly appreciate it.

Zine Project

My Design Methods class recently finished up makin some zines. My zine focused on skate spots. A skateboarder illustrating skate spots. That has cliche poop smeared all over it. My teacher wasn't into my other preferred ideas though. C'est la vie. I normally don't post projects I do for class cuz everything I do sucks, but
I actually don't completely hate these little drawings I did. I only somewhat hate them, so I guess they are worthy of being put on teh internetz.

I am now going to crawl into bed knowing I am going to get fisted up the ass with all sorts of work this week. Stokage.

Self Portrait

I know you already think I'm ugly but check out how ugly I am when I draw myself.

There is still hope in skateboarding.

I don't know the source of this quote but if find out I'll be sure to write in where it came from.

"What Ed [Templeton] did that was different from everyone else, is he embraced the seldom seen reject side of skateboarding. Toy Machine is for dudes who can't get the girls who aren't the best at anything and constantly blow it on a regular basis which is why I love them"

Yep thats my life in a nutshell.

Gaslight Anthem Show Poster

My class's first project for Design Methods was to create a poster for an upcoming show of any band we wanted. Pretty straightforward.

Bum Jonez

Look at my roommate Khyber Jones being real tall and eating cereal. This was my first assignment for Figurative Communication Class. We had to create a portrait of someone in an environment that says something about their personality. Khyber is a notorious slag.

BACK TO SCHOOL FFFFFFFUUUUUUU

School has started and my life is a stressful mess again. Killer. Enjoy this jar with paintbrushes in it. I know its kind of hard to. Just try. Or you can enjoy the doodle i pasted in the top-left corner instead. Or you can go back to stalking people on Facebook.

Sir Uncle Ray, King of the Wild Frontier

My best friend's dad enjoying a beer and a smoke whilst discussing numerous intriguing topics and sharing his never ending wisdom. This is the man who wrote Bartending for Dummies amongst many other books. His name is Ray Foley.

Doodling Away

Just some random landscape-ish thing I illustrated to pass time in Canada. This image has nothing to do with my trip there.

Skating Nowhere in Canada

Napanee Park
Getting Worked in Kingston

Ventured to the Middle of Nowhere, Canada last week with the dudes. We skated a hick ass park in Napanee and in a nearby college campus town called Kingston. Nappanee was fun but I got worked in Kingston. It had great spots but I was just skating like complete shit (as usual). I was real bummed and could only produce an illustration on par with the doodles that I would draw in my middle school notebooks while not paying attention in math class.

Truffles

I decided to experiment with painting gouache on top of tissue paper. Didn't really come out as awesome as I wanted it to. The reference for this painting is from thelondonbroil.com (fresh photos from Dan Bracaglia). My friend Dan shot a portrait of our good friend Steven about two months back and I figured this would be a good image to mess around with. Steve fucking rules. And if you know Dan please congratulate him for recently landing a spot on the staff at Popular Photography. Way to go dude.

Barely a Throwback

I did this Illustration for my first pictorial foundation project at the beginning of my sophomore year. I am beginning my junior year in a month so that was about a year ago. Is one year old considered a throwback? I don't know. Anywho, My pictorial teacher (Tim Bower) had told me a few times that this was my strongest piece from both semesters. Maybe my skills just began to suck more as time went on. There's nothing else from my pictorial portfolio on this blog so I guess its kind of hard to judge this theory. I'll just keep assuming that I suck and keep trying to get better.

Actually when your sick of looking at my blog go look up Tim Bower. He's real good at art and I learned a lot from him.

A Street

I painted this picture of the street next to my apartment in Philly for painting class last semester. This street rules because its smooth and provides for hours of flatground skating with little traffic getting in the way. I also made this post whilst pooping on the toilet.

meh...

I went back into the drawing of the car interior with watercolors. I wasn't too enthused about it so I did a pretty half assed job. o well.

On the Road In the Backseat Listening to Reel Big Fish Singing Along and Dancing Very Obnoxiously as I Draw Whats in Front of Me

Deal with the annoying title. I constructed this drawing whilst sitting in the backseat of the car on the way down to the beach for the Fourth of July. I just got around to inking it and decided to color it with the computer. Goddamn. It sucks. I need to invest in a tablet or something. Using the mouse pad thing on my laptop is basically like digital finger painting. Having knowledge of how to use Photoshop to paint things would also come in handy. Shiiiit why am I even thinking of excuses? Its just lack of talent.

Abstractisms

Tis my favorite painting from sophomore painting class last semester. Having a chance to work abstractly as opposed to illustrating things was real fun and relaxing.

Europe, We're Up

Beloved comrades John Mullen and JD Turner have been invading Europe for about six months, conquered it, and came back to America greater men. Enjoy this little video they came up with.

Europe, We're Up! from John Mullen on Vimeo.

And how happy are you that you don't have to look at my art today? Don't get too excited cuz there's more on its way.

TROLOLOLOLOLO

I did this portrait about two months ago but it remains one of my favorite sketchbook doodles. Everyone should get familiar with Eduard Khil, the Trololo Man if they haven't already.

Smart Board

Today at work I got to use a smart board, which is basically like using a digital white board. The computer is hooked up to a projector which displays the screen on the wall. Then somehow by the magic of technology you are able to use a stylus like a mouse on the board. I messed around in photoshop and drew a hand study. I have never drawn anything directly from photoshop before so this was a first for me. It was pretty boss being able to draw digitally on such a large area. Still don't know who drew those insects to the right though...

Annin Sesh

Mah dude John finally got home from Europe last night after six months of being overseas. Me and the dudes celebrated his arrival by reliving our middle/high school days with a classic Annin loading dock sesh. John threw down a nollie bigspin heel and it was real cool. AMERICA FUCK YEA

Enjoy the girth.

Back in April, Skateboarder Magazine had a contest where they asked for their readers to draw their favorite Toy Machine team member. I never enter contests but being that Toy Machine is my all time favorite skateboard company, I could not resist. I chose to draw Ed Templeton, a true girth soldier. I did not win. Whatevskis.

Mah dude Isaac

Isaac's been my good friend since kindergarten but I haven't seen him in a couple years. We got to skate and hang out one day last week and it totally ruled so illustated this really bromosexual picture of us being good dudes.

A Parrot

I did this doodle amongst many others at work. I took a particular liking to this one so I'm gonna post it on the internet for everyone else to hate on and criticize. I spilled some paint on it by accident but I guess it kind of works as part of the image.

My drawing skills...

basically haven't improved since I first started drawing Buzz and Woody when I was six years old. Whatever. You should really go see Toy Story 3 instead of wasting your time looking at my crappy doodle. I saw it twice this week.

Two Days ago: Go Skateboarding day.

I slagged off cuz my ankles and legs were too sore from skating every other day of the year.
